I own a classic VW bug from 1975. I recently restored it and it looks brand new and works great. I'd like to know what could I do to add some power to it so it accelerates faster? I have tried octane booster and premium fuel, but any other ideas? Thanks!

To get real power improvements you need to replace some bits in the engine. No way around it. The aftermarket for aircooled VW performance is simply huge though and the engine itself unbelievably simple to modifiy. Its been about 15 years since I have been into this stuff so I'm sure the market has changed and new stuff is out but back in the day I noticed a nice improvement inexpensively simply by switching to dual Weber 34 ICT 1-barrel carbs instead of the stock 1 barrel carb, a Crane coil and a header (brand I can't remember).

Upgraded cylinder heads like the 041 and 044 with bigger valves are readily available and cheap. Bolt-in overbore cylinders up to 88mm are also available, or you can go as big as 94mm with some machine work. Go to the book store and grab one of the VW dedicated magazines off the rack. All of the aftermarket suppliers will be in there. There are also several good books on modifying VW's.

If you have the money, try to get a larger capacity engine.
If not you can change the standard single carburetor to a twin set up with special inlets.
A free flow exhaust will also help, replace the standard air filter with a high performance unit.
It is also possible to fit a turbo charger to a standard engine as well.
You could also consider No2.

I trust air cooled yet might want to upload this- Re-torque the heads and rocker fingers beforehand you re-regulate the valves. be particular to regulate this all with the engine chilly. The gasoline pump in it really is electrical powered and does not have a touch ball and is not less costly to interchange. I doubt it really is appropriate. oftentimes the coil is solid or not yet examine this run it contained in the darkish and seem on the engine merely to be particular you do not see any leakage of cutting-edge any the position. If there is an argument you'll see sparks around the coil or wires.

Bosch 009 distributor, 2-stage progressive Weber carb, and header exhaust. These won't make it a race car, but you will be pleased with how much better it will run. Good luck

There's probably not much you can do with this. You can only squeeze so much power out of those motors before you start causing reliability problems. If you want a lot more power, you need to get something that carries a bigger motor.
