There are several things you can do to maintain a healthy computer.
1. Defragment the hard drive (Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter
2. Run Ad-Aware PE(www.lavasoft.com) to remove spyware.
3. Run an anti-virus scanner (with the definitions up to date) to remove any viruses.
4. Clean out your recycle bin and temporary internet files. You can easily do this by Right clicking on "Local Disk C:" and choosing "Properties" from the menu to run "disk cleanup".
5. Uninstall (not delete!) any unused programs or at least remove them from startup. You can use a utility like msconfig (Start>Run>msconfig) or a simpler utility like startup.exe from http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

1. Defragment the C: every week. You may defragment other partitions on a monthly basis.
2. Download AdAware spyware and run a complete spyware scan.
3. If you don't have an antivirus software, then get AVG Free and run a complete scan.
4. Uninstall programs you don't use often. Remove unwanted files and free up diskspace.
5. Invest in TuneUp utilities if you can. Its worth every cent you spend on it.

you dont say if you have any anti-virus programs. you need to run a full virus scan every month and also get a spyware and ad-aware programs too, you can get some free ones if you google. you really need to run these scan at least once a month. also try a program called CCLEANER. this will get rid of most of the crap thats gets left behind on your comp. hope this helps. :-)
