I'm glad I didn't read that piece of news....it sure seems like we've reversed ways and gone back to some of the more idiotic practices of the 50's and 60's, doesn't it? That right there is just another reason why I'm sick of the world itself.....

The day and age mean little in a society's norms. Clearly, in the community she lives in there is still a prevaling value system that says young girls who get pregnant should get married and their presence in the school system is a negative influence on the other students. They have chosen or ended up being a mother, so now they must focus on that, first and foremost. The teacher reflects this in her value system and the local Board of Education does to in its support of the teacher. The facts here speak for themselves.
I think what you want to know is why these values still exist. Clearly you think the broader society in which this community exists has a different value system and that this broader and more tolerant view should be reflected in the community. But that won't happen until the local electorate votes people in office and thereby gives them the power to change to social norms there.

A teacher has no right to tell a student what they should do with their life. Some teachers are just cruel. I know plenty of girls who got pregnant in school and still finished. I mean, what if they guy who got her pregnant didn't want anything to do with her now?? That happens a lot...who would she marry then??

I'm a teacher and I agree with you. There are ways for a teenage mother to keep on studying.
It's not a teacher job to tell a student to quit or not.

well in one of the highschools here in town they have a class for that. my mom used to work there before she started her daycare. she would take care of the teen moms kids so they could stay in school. and the moms had to come there for one class for parenting skills and such. maybe u should look for a school like that.
