I am a Correctional Officer in North Carolina. There is talk going on about inmates may be required to cut their hair. I understand that this is already practiced in some other states. I would like to get answers from other states to see if it is required in your state. Do you think it is a good idea? Thank you for your response.

Well, my brother has pulled time twice. And he was NOT required to cut his hair. I kind of have mixed feelings on this. Yes it kind of sounds like an OK idea. BUT since it is mandated that he cuts his hair then who pays for this hair cut? I ask this because while my brother was locked up I had ti support him. I know it wasn't a bunch of money but $20.00 a week is $20.00 a week. After a few weeks and months of this it does add up. NOW he will need more money (if he is locked up again) and guess who has to support him? Don't get me wrong, I love my brother all so much but hey I am not made of money either.
And on the other side, WHY force an inmate to cut his hair. UNLESS he is keeping it dirty and there is a health risk. I know he is there as punishment for a crime. But we are so much getting into a dictatorship type nation and I myself am against being FORCED to do something that I don't want to do. So even tho I do understand what your saying/asking I can go both ways on this.

I don't think it's fair. And if they refuse? It's just another way of the correctional institutions to get under their skin. I know that as inmates they have no rights, but they still do to some degree. I did time myself, and I think it's the most insulting rule to tack on. I wonder if the idea came from the "hacks".

No I don't. Sure would like to know the answer to your question. I think it would be best if hair was cut. I've seen some real scary hair on that prison show on CNN.

Currently no one, but when my brother went to prison, about 12 years ago in Ohio, he had hair to the middle of his back and they made him cut it. It was beautiful hair, too.
