He was an innocent creature abandoned by his "father," Dr. Frankenstein. Even after he was forced to wander in the woods, his instincts were gentle and generous. He helped the family in the woods for the pure joy of seeing them in their loving family life, and seeing their lives made better by his help. It is obvious that, given even the barest tolerance, he would have been a wonderful person. Only relentless persecution made him destructive.
Having concluded that people would always be cruel to him, however, he became cruel too. He embarked on a series of atrocities that were out of proportion even to the mistreatment he had suffered. In a natural human his revenge against society would certainly be labeled "inhuman." But the fact is, the creature is not exactly human. Perhaps he lacks the sense that humans are his own people, and is as much able to kill them for his ends as humans are to kill animals. Clearly humans don't have any loyalty to him either. He should never have been created. Like King Kong, through no fault of his own, he cannot be near humans without causing destruction. His nature and human nature are not compatible. If we see him as human, he becomes a moral monster in response to his suffering. If not, he is just a dangerous creature, like a rabid chimp.
[Dr. Frankenstein himself is the original moral monster in this story.]

He had no sense of right or wrong. He was made and did not choose to be alive. He was made from many different people, so which one do you charge since they are all legally dead? Good luck!
