Am getting back into breeding Bettas but am overwhelmed again by colours and patterns. Previously I worked a lot with butterfly and 'mustard gas' types, and a lot with blue and greens.

I prefer crowntails, halfmoon, supadelta and wild-type/short finned, and don't like double tail.

So, where shall I start this time? Any ideas or preferences?

I think my all time favorite is black halfmoon, followed closely with steel blue halfmoon. That might be because ti's the main colors I have kept and worked for the last 10 years or so, or because to do blacks you also must do steel blues or maybe because it most expensive betta I ever purchased was a black. For whatever reason, there it is. When I was showing heavily, I worked a lot of butterfly but never really got a good butterfly green line going and I think those are awesome looking fish.

Of course, for something completely different there are always things like B. imbellis or B. pugnax.

I have a what is called 'half-sun' but I don't think that is a actual type, but used to describe the combo. It is a comb tail with butterfly pattern, purple and light blue.

I saw a picture of a 'triple tail' where the third part is horizontal! Looked kind of interesting.

I wouldn't mind getting a giant to put in a nice sized tank by itself, but they are in the triple digits price-wise.

I love the cotton candy color, the pink and blue mix (the most beautiful of them all in my opinion), but never see one for sale. I prefer the comb or cross ray/double ray crown tails. I like butterfly and bi-color. Marbles can be pretty. Mustard gas are nice too.

I do prefer the blues and purples.

Don't like the piebald too much.

I don't think you can go wrong with anything you choose, do the colors and patterns that you love, unless you are doing it for profit only, then do the rarest or highest cost to consumer.

I like this forum, everyone is super nice there, something that is not always easy to find online! There are also a lot of people that breed, and are all betta fanatics!!!

My preferences have always been blacks, blues, and greens; halfmoon or superdelta; solids or butterfly pattern. I also once (several decades ago) had a pair of opaque white females with green iridescence.
