All Linux distros, so far, fall down when auto-sensing WiFi. That's why many offer a live CD, including Ubuntu. So you can verify that it CAN recognize and use your Wifi adapter.

If the Live CD doesn't see WiFi, only install on your hard drive if you're willing to fiddle around a lot to get it working.

You could check 3com's site for drivers OR try the latest release of Kubuntu 7.04 (Apr. 24th) . It's the first distro to recognize my WiFi, but doesn't appear to allow WPA encryption, only WEP, so I'm still fiddling with it. If and when I get it working, I will install it on my hard drive.

You'll probably need to install the wireless access packages.

Umm, "apt-get install kdenetwork-wifimanager" - sorry I don't use Kubuntu or wireless.

kubuntu accesses the internet automatically when installed, so either it's not installed properly or your modem is not working properly, try rebooting your modem :- unplug the ethernet wire, turn off modem, wait 30 seconds and reconnect wire, then turn it on.

Well, you should have access to a wireless access point. Do you?
