There are a lot of different words and prefixes that pertain to using the computer. I received some files one was supposed to be in word but wasn't the other was in excel. I had never used excel and on the word article the adobe program appeared and asked how I wanted to open the article. It was a resume that I was to print for someone. I chose the wrong format and I don't know how or if I can change the way to open it.

I don't know about a book or pamphlet, but here is a Glossary of Computer Extensions that you may find useful:

As for opening something in the wrong format, you can try right clicking on the file and see if you get the "open with" option ... if not, you may be able to manually change the file association in whatever program it's opening in.

mebbe right click the files and point the mouse at 'open with'... then in the popup menu, select 'choose program' and there is a checkbox there to do what you want. at least on my setup. (using windows XP)
