It is likely that your friend is in fact Straight, have you ever seen him with a girl? He must surely make comments about girls. I think you should rethink your outlook first before coming to any conclusions on your sexuality as well. You will most likely be outcasted from your current group of friends if you come out as a homosexual. Your sexuality is of course Straight, being "gay" is a culture fad. Dont buy into it, get a girlfriend... maybe your choice of sexuality is because you cannot get a girlfriend, if that is the case don't worry... it will happen eventually. The Following link contains some truths about the path that you have sought, do not reject it automatically, if you are going to make such an important choice, at least hear both sides.

Really, I think you should think very carefully about doing anything about this. First of all ask yourself, do you really think he is gay?? Has he given you any hint at all that he may like you more than a friend? If he hasnt, the I would probably keep my feelings to myself, and start to try and 'come out' to him, and see how he reacts with that first. If he is ok with you being gay, but doesnt show any sign of liking you more than a friend , then I would leave it, as its kind of an uncomfortable situation, and you dont want to lose the friendship you have got.
If you come out and he behaves flirtier than usual, I would ask him are you gay? Dont mention the fact you are in love with him untill you are CERTAIN he is gay. Perhaps he is confused. If I were you, I would tread really carefully, and dont embarass or make him feel uncomfortable by coming on to him. Make your move, but do it really subtley and slowly.
Good Luck, keep on loving!

dont ask him... be proud of who you are and let him know that you are... you'll find out if he is your friend or not... by the way take some company when you do tell him and make sure they are female and know whats going on... no guy wants to look aggressive in front of girls.
