I was just wondering, since there is a lovely young couple of blackbirds nesting in my backyard.. what comes first?

Do birds build a nest in the right season and when they feel that they've build a good enough home, the eggs start to grow?

Or is it the other way around?

Do eggs start to grow inside of the female and she feels she needs to build a place to raise her babies?

Chickens on farms have a good place and they lay eggs all the time. Would they still lay eggs all the time if the lived somewhere less safe? And if a bird made a nest and was waiting for her eggs to come and the nest was destroyed for whatever reason, would she lay the egg somewhere unsafe because she had to get rid of it? Or not? Maybe it's not the same for all birds?

Please, help. I am wondering about blackbirds in particular.

The Nests comes first, when the mating season starts for birds (slightly different depending on the type of bird) they look for a mate, then they build the next together and then they "whoopee" and the female lays eggs in the nest.

In some birds, like Birds of Paradise, the male builds a nest as part of his courtship display. So in some birds at least, nesting comes before mating, egg-laying and incubation.

hey it's like when the eggs are in the development stage

the parent bird start collecting straw, sticks, grass and many other objects flying from one corner to another

they build the nest slowly and nicely such that it gives good warmth and shelter to the eggs

the nest is completed before the eggs are layed. the female bird lays eggs in the nest and guards them

cheers

I believe that nest building is instinctual. The bird builds a nest, be it for shelter or for incubating eggs. All female birds deliver eggs as do humans but not all of the eggs are fertilized - as in humans. If the egg becomes fertilized, once it is laid, it will develop and hatch.

first the blackbirds mate. Then the male and female build the nest together and after a gestation period of 1-2 months the female lays eggs.

You really need to have 6 months or more in your savings just in case you loose your job. 3 months is just not enough! Put this money in an account that bears as high an interest rate as you can get and still be able to access your funds. Money Market accounts seem to be paying quite nicely now and you can still get to your money if you should have an extreme emergency such as job loss. Check the rates at your local Credit Union and make sure that they do not charge you a service fee if your balance should fall below the minimum required amount. You can find a Credit Union (not a bank!) near you at www.ncua.gov in the Resources for Consumers section. You should begin to put as much as you can in your 401k since this will reduce the amount of taxes you will owe so each quarter (or whatever time period your plan allows) raise your 401k contribution amount as you can afford it even if you have to do it 1% at a time. Good Luck and keep saving!

The nest is built first...then the mating begans, then the eggs are formed and laid.

the nest must be made first or the parents will have no ware to put the eggs.

Good luck!
