Please read and help......
My sister got pulled over because a cop ran her plates and she didnt have insurance. So an hour later she went online at my house and signed up for insurance and coverage began immediatly.....
So on her way home she got pulled over again for the same thing. The cop gave her a ticket. Even though she just recieved one for the same thing two hours prior and showed him the printed thing from the insurance. He said you can go to court and show it to the judge.
Then he told her not to drive home and left her (in somewhat of a bad area) at 1:30am and she is 6 months pregnant and left her to walk. So is this wrong or are cops just that mean and desperate to make quotas these days?

It sounds like cops are just mean, but having car insurance is the law. She should go to court and show her proof of insurance. When she purchased the insurance, she needed to have a copy of the proof of insurance card in her possession otherwise she could be ticketed. Also, the insurance company or the insurance holder needs to contact the division of motor vehicles with the proof of insurance so it shows when the plates are run. There are some cops who will and can arrest people for driving with no insurance. Sorry to hear of your sister's misfortune...

Most states require the insurance coverage to start at 12:01 am. So depending on which state, Both tickets will either be thrown out, because she was covered at 12:01 am. the previous day for ticket received at 10:30 pm and the 1:30 am ticket tossed as well. The ticket from 10:30pm will stand, the ticket at 1:30am will not. Why? Because she got insurance at 11:30pm.

Quotas do not exist in America today in all states. Outlawed by USC. So if you can truly it was a quota, then you have a case.

The question at hand is how did the plates know she didn't have insurance?

And for the kicker of the day...In no states are your required to have insurance. The USC ruled states can not force a person to have insurance coverage. How ever, the states can be forced to make you show "Proof of Financial Responsibility".

Why didn't your sister post a bond with you state for $250,000 so she never has to have insurance?

for the first ticket she will be prosecuted. for the second no-she was insured to drive the vehicle and thats that. the insurance company will have logged the time the call was made and if this confirms it was made before the second ticket then the courts do not have a leg to stand on. (bear in mind though that while going through the process of making a policy some insurance companies ask if you have any motoring or criminal proceedings pending-which in the case of your sister then yes-the first ticket). in leaving your sister in a bad area in the early hours this is at the officers discretion-however he could have shown some compassion taking into account the condition your sis is in so i would file an official complaint-it might not get you anywhere but it will go on his record-why a gaurdian of the law could not arrange safe passage home for a pregnant woman is beyond me if i were a policeman i would not see it as a problem.

First, yes, you can be charged for the same thing on the same day. She was ticketed for driving without insurance, that is the first offense. Then she was caught doing the same thing again, that is the second offense.

Secondly, I suspect the officer did not believe her claim that she had just purchased the insurance, hence the second ticket. Not that hard to fake a document on a computer.

Thirdly, shame on the officer for making her walk. While the officer is not obligated to transport your sister, it is his responsibility to ensure her safety.

Fourth, there is no quota. I suspect the officer was pissed because she was driving again.

Your sister should file a complaint with the officer's department. She should also tell this story to the judge. The judge, when shown proof of insurance, will dismiss the second ticket. The officer's conduct might induce the judge to lessen the fine for the first offense.

What??? They made her walk home at that time of morning alone because of no insurance?? I would definitely contact the watch commander of that division and report those officers, if that's the real case here. They are to protect and serve. Her second ticket will be voided when she appears in court. That's a very big fine!

Yep seems kind of mean making her her walk home, he could have called one of her friends or closest relatives to pick her up. The cop should have called you for you to go pick her up, I would call the officers boss and complain.

Likely he have "CURIOUSITY "over the insurances purchased in times -if proven genuine-court likely overwrite the second ticket.

yes you can get the ticket again, but in her case if she indeed get coverage that soon, get a attorney and fight it ,maybe even both as the first one could of been a warning ticket !
