-4(-3)+1/2-2div(-2) i do not understand this at all?

Well, first, take care of your muliplication, what I assume -4(-3) to be. That would be 12 (negatives cancel when mulitiplied). So that would leave us with:

12 + 1/2 -2 /-2

But I am not sure of one thing about which way to go. Is everything divided by -2, or just the last part? So let me look that up:

Rule 2: Next perform all multiplications and divisions, working from left to right.
Rule 3: Lastly, perform all additions and subtractions, working from left to right.

Okay, assuming that the final /(-2) is not really supposed to be a denominator of a huge messy fraction, we can divide the -2 by the -2 giving +1.

12 + 1/2 + 1

So I get 13 1/2

The one who got 11.75 got that by leaving out the first -2 in the original equation.

all this is, is order of operation in algebra. you do multiplication and division first then you do addition and subtraction. all of these are done left to right. oh and parentheses are always done first.I'm pretty sure that this is right, but ask your math teacher, as it's been a long time since I've done this kind of math.
