I heartily concur with the askers 'Disgust'! Because:-
Upon the Ballot paper for "Local Council Election concerning the Ward I live in"
I am asked to cast 2 Votes amongst a Candidates list consisting of 5 persons:-
2 x Conservative Candidates:
2 x Liberal-Democrat Candidates:
1 x Labour Candidate:
HOWEVER THE 2 X LIB-DEMS ARE 18 YEAR OLD TWINS {Brother & Sister}:-
{The Brother works in a local "MACDONALDS Take-away" the Sister is in her 2nd year at a nearby TECHNICAL College"}
These 2 unfortunate individuals are hoping that the fact that they are the first 18 year old twins to stand for election are enough to swing the electorate to vote in their favour:
Anyone who voices their opposition to these inexperienced & juvenile candididates are advised to "Stand for Election Themselves" instead of being critical:-
"Fair Comment"!
Unfortunately the majority of people; are not capable of being as Economimical-with-the-Truth and as easily Corrupted as so many of the long term Local Councillors within the District Council which governs the area in which I live!

Not a choice I would like to be faced with, and certainly a pity that there are not more decent candidates from good alternative parties like the Greens.
Best thing to do in that case is find out about the candidates as individuals, and vote for the one who you think would do best for your local community. That's what local elections are really about after all. Other than that its just a choice of the lesser of three evils I suppose.
Don't know about parties in Yorkshire, since I live in Edinburgh - sorry. As for starting a local party branch - look up the party of your choice on the internet. Contact them to get advice, then perhaps advertise in a local news paper to find out how much interest there is.

We kind of have the opposite problem in Scotland 3 ballot papers and a huge list of parties but I guess thats better than a lack of choice.
Maybe you need to change your voting system for local elections like we have to give smaller parties more of a chance.

Parties comprise individuals. Candidates are individuals willing to stick their head above the parapet and take the flack.
If you want a Green candidate in your area, join the Green Party and put your name forward.

If you're so concerned why didn't you find out before polling day and make your self a candidate?
People like you are so lazy, you get the government you deserve a self serving political elite!

Here in the Denby Dale Ward we have had a leaflet through the door for "The English Democrats"...never heard of them before...they have some interesting ideas!
http://www.englishdemocrats.org.uk/
Don't know who the others are yet apart from Labour and Conservative as I haven't seen any other leaflets....I did hear on the radio yesterday that people putting bumpf through letterboxes for one party have been caught removing the leaflets from another party....naughty, naughty, but hardly surprising!

What is wrong about UKIP? I am sure it will also take care of the environment, should it have power to do so.
