A good place to start is Google Sketchup. Click on the link below, download the Sketchup program, (free) and you'll be drawing 3-D models as fast as you can think them up. Read through all the instructions after starting the program. It's a great way to learn all the basics to get a good start on 3-D Modeling. Have fun!

First of all you have to know which software you are going to use, the most popular and powerful softwres are Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3d studio max, Light wave, Avid Soft image, cinema 4d,...

a good start will be to search the above softwares on the net to see which one inspires you and matches your demands and budget, hence in most cases you can download a free educational version from the offical website.

then what you can do is visit online schools and websites such as:
www.thegnomonworkshop.com
www.gnomononline.com
highend3d.com
cgchannel.com

usualy these websites include further links, i personaly recommend the gnomon work shop streaming vedios, especially if you're learning maya.

good luck.

what 3d application do you use? are you going to do low poly games models or high poly production stuff?

you can search the web for tutorials and videos. thats pretty much how every self taught CG artist starts. besides that you can always seek opinions and feedback on the forums at www.cgtalk.com
