1) What does entropy mean? Examples? When is order or disorder? And when is it high and low? Unfavorable and favorable?
2) I need examples of endothermic and exothermic? I know endothermic is in and exothermic is out but not specifically understand the meaning thought.
3) when is something spontaneous and unspontaneous?

And that's about it. Thank you very much. Your explanations hopefully will clear things up for me. Appreciate it!

1. Entropy is a quantified measure of disorder. An example of an ordered compound is ice. The crystalline structure is very regular and fixed. An example of a disordered compound is water vapor. Now the molecules are not restrained by intermolecular attraction like they were in the ice. Entropy for the ice would be lower than that of the water vapor. Reactions are more favored when the entropy increases. When you open a filled balloon in a room under vacuum, the gas expands to fill the whole room. It has gone from being confined to a balloon (more ordered) to filling the much larger room (more disordered). This is spontaneous because heat energy plays no role and the entropy increases.

2. Endothermic processes absorb heat from the surroundings. Exothermic processes release heat to the surroundings. Combustion is exothermic. Melting is endothermic because the substance takes in heat energy to change state.

3. Spontaneous means that the reaction proceeds in the forward direction without any intervention from external forces. Whether a reaction is spontaneous or not is determined by the change in Gibbs free energy, delta G. Gibbs free energy depends on both enthalpy (related to heat), and entropy. If delta G is negative, the processes is spontaneous. If delta G is positive, the reaction is nonspontaneous. If delta G is 0, the reaction is at equilibrium. An example of a spontaneous process is ice melting in an environment at room temperature. A nonspontaneous process is ice melting at -25 degrees.
