Acids in general are corrosive substances, especially when their pH gets closer to 0, such as hydrochloric acid, which is present in our stomachs actually and helps to break down the food we eat. When you think of acidic substances you should think of sour things we use alot like lemon juice or acetic acid, AKA vinegar.
Bases are generally water-soluble and bitter tasting which have a pH of greater than 7. Milk is a base, and soaps are bases too. The water-soluble property is what makes soap work to get the grime and grease off of our hands. Let's all give a hand to acids and bases for all the work they do to make our lives easier.
There's also the chemistry part of the whole thing, but I think you weren't really asking about that.

Bases (or alkalines, as they're also known) are higher than 7 on the pH scale. They have a tendency to be slippery in texture. For example, soaps and bleach are almost always bases. Acids are at the low end of the pH scale, and are... well, acidic in nature. Some examples are vinegar and hydrochloric acid, which is found in the stomach.
Incidentally, water is 7 on the pH scale, and I think 14 is as high as it goes.

amino acids are the most basic in this list a polypeptide chain is 3 or more amino acids connected to each other proteins are a result of polypeptide chains, so a bunch of amino acids chained together make up a polypeptide, which makes up a protein as for nucleotides, they are a part of DNA and RNA. there's five nucleotides, with four appearing in DNA and four in RNA. for DNA, there's guanine (which connects to cytosine) and adenine (which connects to thymine). In RNA, the thymine is not used, but instead is replaced by uracil. so then, depending on what order nucleotides are on the DNA, when they are copied onto the mRNA (messenger RNA). the mRNA leaves the nucleus and then is translated into proteins with the help of tRNA (transfer RNA, which uses codons and anticodons) and rRNA (ribosomal RNA). so then, recap: nucleotide order on the DNA is transcripted onto mRNA and then translated to make proteins. proteins are polypeptide chains, which are made up of amino acids. :)

according to the arrhenius theory . the substance in an aqueous solution which has h+ ions in it is callled a base. and the substance which has oh- ions in it is called a base.
