The National Defence Academy of India located in Khadakwasla, Pune, is a joint services academy where cadets of the three wings Army, Navy and Air Force are trained together before they go for there pre-commission training to their respective academies.
Course
The NDA is the foundation for a career in the Indian military services. The three-year compulsory course includes all subjects for a University Degree and also basic training of fundamental military sciences and, in the final year, specialization into the specific branch of the Indian military services that a cadet desires to join.
On successful completion of the three-year course, the cadet passes out with a University Degree and goes on to the training establishments of the Service he has opted for. Army cadets go to the IMA at Dehra Dun, Air Force cadets to the ab-initio flying training establishments and the Naval cadets for Midshipman training to the Training Ships.
Admission
Admission to the NDA is conducted twice a year via an entrance examination, held every six months by the UPSC, and a multiple-round interview including physcological and group testing followed by a thorough medical examination. All applicants must be under the age of 19 and have passed the 12th Grade of schooling.
Only the citizens of India and Nepal may apply, but cadets from nations enjoying a special relationship with the Indian Government are also at times privileged to attend training courses through Government to Government agreements.

(C) Educational Qualifications
For Army Wing of NDA 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school Education, or equivalent.
For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA and for 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at Naval Academy 12 th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school Education with Physics and Mathematics, or equivalent

About a year before the commencement of a Course, a brief notice appears in the leading daily newspapers and a detailed notification in the Government of India Gazette, offering about the entrance examination to be held by the UPSC six months later at Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizwal, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhopal, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chandigarh, Cochin, Cuttack, Delhi, Dharwar, Dispur (Guwahati), Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Jorhat, Kavaratti (Lakshadweep), Kohima, Lucknow, Madras, Madurai, Nagpur, Panji (Goa), Patna, Port Blair, Raipur, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Tirupati, Trivandrum, Udaipur and Vishakhapatnam.
Physical Standards : Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2005 as per guidelines given in Appendix-V.
(e) A candidate who has resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academics of Armed Forces is not eligible to apply.
Candidates are also advised to rectify minor defects/aliments in order to speed up finalisation of medical examination conducted at the Military Hospital after being recommended at the SSB.
The undermentioned ailments are considered, common minor ailments :
(a) Was (Ears)
(b) DNS
(c) Hydrocle/Phimosis
(d) Overweight/Underweight
(e) Under Chest
(f) Piles
(g) Gynaecomastia
(h) Tonsillitis
(i) Varicocele
Candidates declared unfit during Appeal Medical Board will be intimated about the providion of Review Medical Board.
(a) The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free form any disease/disability which is likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties.
(b) There should be no evidence of weak constitution, bodily defects or under weight. The Candidate should not be obese.
The minimum acceptable height is 157,5 cms, (162.5 for Air Force) For Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of North Eastern regions of India, Garhwal and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable heights will be 5 cms. less. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep the minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2 cms.
