As with any 'western' country, the USA does not wish to accept more 'liabilities' ... so (unlike UK, where anyone can get in and then claim Asylum) they impose strict controls.

The 'easy' solution is to marry a US Citizen :-)

Like a lot of Countries, they have a points based 'Quota' system - if you have training/skills that are in demand or can get a job with a US Company this gives you a better chance.

You can also get in if you have at least $1m to invest in a Business ...

Finally there is the 'green card lottery' ...

Check out the US Embassy web site ...

If your dad is an American citizen then you can live there, otherwise you have to go on the points system. A Green Card is notoriously difficult to get. It works both ways however as I have a second cousin whose mum was English but dad was American, her mum died but she cannot come and live in the UK as it has to be your mum who is british to come and live here.

If you do a job such as nursing or teaching (something to benefit the country) then you get more points. Also if you have a close family member who lives there then that will also benefit you. I would imagine most people who live in Florida who are not American are there illegally (probably mostly from Cuba).

The reason it is so difficult is that we're still a little miffed about that War of 1812 when you guys burned down the White House.

I would think twice before coming to the states. This place is getting worse by the day and has criminals presiding over it. America is gonna crack if things don't change.
