I have an American Indian Head penny marked 1885. I found it in circulation about 10 years ago, but it still looks to be in decent shape. You can still clearly read the date etc. Is it worth anything?

The only thing we need to do is to determine the grade, since we already have the date and the cent was only minted in Philadelphia. Visit this site for an estimate of the grade of your coin : http://www.indiancent.com/grading.htm
In grade Good, it has a retail of $6, Very Good = $8, Fine = $14, Very Fine = $30.

Nice find.

1885 was a year they struck only 11,761,594 cents. The mintage's before and after are much higher. In grade good-no Liberty visible on head band the value is $4.25, in grade fine Liberty mostly visible the value is $8, in grade very fine- slight but even wear on Liberty $18 and in extra fine-Liberty real sharp and not to much wear on coin $45. The above prices are about what a dealer would pay.

if you can still read some of the letters in the head band of the Indian "LIBERTY" and it has no disfiguration with a rim..it can be worth as little as $6 to $8 and if it is in a better state of preservation it can be worth much more
Check the headband and the rim if those two parts are in decent shape ..you probably have a coin worth keeping..go to www.pcgs.com...see if you can send me a scan at www.uscoinslp@yahoo.com scan front and back ...I should be of better assistance then

To get an idea of the coin's actual value in the marketplace do a search on eBay. Be sure to check "completed auctions" to get the final selling prices.

It has a book value around $6.00 in Good-4 condition. more depending on the condition. Scale goes up to 70,which is a flawless coin, so 4 is obviously on the low end.
