we have a 1985 chevy van g20 series and our transmission went out in it. a reebuilt transmission was put in it and we noticed that our spedometeer doesn't work. we didn't ask the mechanic why they didn't hook it up when they replaced the tranny. so is there any way we can it hooked up? sure would be nice to know how fast we are going. any help with this would be greatly appreciated. thanks

all you have to do is hook it up. It is a cable with a screw on end (kinda like the end of a garden hose) that connects to the side of the tail shaft (thats the ling, cone looking thing on the end of the trans that has the driveshaft coming out of it.

Yes all you need to do is screw it back in there should be at the end of the cable a screw type end just screw it back into the transmission, i'm not sure exactly where it goes on your vehicle, try getting a Haynes manual from your local parts store. Or i would take it back to that repair shop where you took it and demand them fix the rest of the car cause if they were to lazy to install a simple cable whats to say the were to lazy to put in a bolt somewhere.

when you picked the van up and noticed that the speedometer wasn't working, you should have said something then, but anyway, take it back to them and have them hook it up and see if it works. You paid them to do a job and they should stand behind it.

the mechanic probably forgot to do it is all. just go back and kindly ask them to hook it up. if they stand behind their work they will have no problem helping you.
