I like Vincent, and I love James. Wonderful choice. I like names that are familiar to most people, yet don't belong to half the kids on the playground.

Those are two excellent names! They're sensible and unpretentious.
I wouldn't have a hyphen - make James the middle name and you can still go with VJ.
Vince is a better contraction of the name though - VJ is cute for a little boy but think about what he's going to call himself when he's 30....

I like it! I'd probably go with Vincent James, though (First and middle name, not a hyphenated name.) The funny thing is, I am not usually a fan of initial nicknames, but I have grown to like VJ. I think it's because one of my favorite combos is Valerie Jessamyn- which I toyed around using VJ as a nickname!

I like the name Vincent James, but not VJ for short. It reminds me too much of the golfer Vajay Singh.

Though I'm not too much on double names, I think Vincent and James are fine strong, classic names.
I believe it is far better to give a kid a name that is not cutesy, faddish, or out of the ordinary. School kids can be very cruel and an out of the ordinary name will give them a handle to use for taunts. Believe me on this, I know from long painful experience.
Vincent and James are both good strong names, and the diminutives are also strong. I think your husband has a good idea.

Vincent... like as in Vincent Price? Vinnie for short? The mob?
Unnnhhh I don't think so. Personally the James part is OK but I would avoid Vincent if I were you. Gabriel is nice, though.

I don't know if I would make it VJ -- Vin would be a good nickname, but I wouldn't combine the first and second name -other than that I like the name

I think that's a very nice name, it seems to flow together. As far as using VJ for short...I'm not too fond of that lol, but just because you say you'll use that you might not when your kid is actually born. My cousin was always going to call her daughter KC for short but it just never stuck lol.
