In synthesis, 2 substances are combined to form a larger one. Like 2 legos coming together

ex. 2Na + Cl2 == 2NaCl

In decomposition, a larger molecule is decomposed to form 2 smaller ones. Take a big lego and break into smaller pieces.

ex. 2H2O == 2H2 + O2
