Hi there. My son is showing all the signs of teething. Shoving his fists and everything he can into his mouth, drooling a lot more, crying, kinda pulling at his ears, and waking more at night. I didn't know what was going on at first, so I took him to the pediatrician, and she said she could feel a bump on his lower gums, he's 4 months by the way! But, when I try and feel for it I can't feel a bump. Could it have been there when she felt it then gone away later? I'm hoping she's right about it, and there's not something else going on with him. We've only seen her once since we just moved from Texas to California, and just found a pediatrician. Can they teeth without there being a bump or redness, which he doesn't have either? Thanks!

:) he can have the "bump' one minute, and it be gone the next. Teething is a long hard process, and his teeth may surface, even pop through, then go away again. I would trust your pediatrician on this one.

give him a farleys cookie to knibble on (baby section in grocery)
give him some a teether ring from the fridge that is cold and they like to kneed their teeth on it., and when they're becoming fussy from teething, you can put orajel on it to freeze the pain while the tooth is growing in.
Usually there is a bump or redness before the tooth comes through.
Does he have a fever? did she check his ears to make sure there's no fluid behind it?
but from the drooling, wanting anything in his mouth, waking up more and crying...sounds like he's teething to me. Some doctors recommend giving the child a bit of "tempra' liquid drops to help with the pain, same if the child is going for a needle at the doctors (Booster etc) to give tempra just before arriving at the doctors office*

Yes hes teething.. Maybe the doc can feel it cuz he/she knows what they are looking for.. I look at my daughters gums everyday to see if I see anything.. My daughter is 3 months old.. But if the ped looked at the ears and everything and its all normal than its the teeth... I would get some baby orajel... To help with the pain..

Yes, he is probably teething. I would give him something cool (not frozen), there's those plastic/rubbery rings filled with some type of liquid toy that you can put in the fridge, for him to chew on...it soothes his gums. I would also have his ears checked for ear infection as you mentioned him pulling on his ear, that can be very painful.

Did she check his ears? If he is pulling on his ears he could have an ear infection. Babies tend to put EVERYTHING in their mouths in an attempt to pacify themselves, especially when upset or in pain. Perhaps the move was upsetting to him, or maybe there has been a change of routine? hope this helps.

The swelling comes and goes, so rub clove oil on the gums and give him teething rings and biscuits, Popsicles, he will be through this stage before you know it. Be patient.
