Most are self employed like myself. I can make up to about $60 an hour. Depending on how busy I am and what type of services I am performing, such as color,hi-lites or a chemical straightener I can make alot more. When you first start out in the business its hard and sometimes so slow you make below minimum wage. But in time as you begin to build your clientele, and become more experienced, you'll see a difference in what you make. There is alot of money in this business, you just have to work hard

A cosmetologist usually get paid by the job not hourly. Hell they would not make any money by the hour. It's kind of like going to get your hair done they charge $10.00 bucks for a hair cut for a mans hair.

Not much at all. A little more than minimum wage-maybe. They think you will make money on tips, but if is it 'slow', you really aren't going to be making much at all. Not too mention no health insurance, etc.
