You bet they do. Just like GaryP said, they change drastically depending on their mood. Usually the mood to mate is the major motivator there. It would be the fishes mood though, not yours, that determines his colors.

They change color from moods I have a jack Dempsey's when hes scared you cant even see the Green specs that are all over him but when hes happy they are bright mad there extremely bright. I see the most changes in my red devil he can go from white to pink to orange to a bright red. But be careful because this can also mean an unhealthy fish/environment. Good luck cichlids are great as far as freshwwater fish my devils are like pit bulls they like attention from people but will tear up another fish.

Lol many people say something like this the first time they see their cichlids color change. You should know that when cichlids get excited or aggravated they show their real colors. Dont believe me? wait till he calms down and his normal color comes back, then put a mirror next to him and see what happens lol

Mine do.When angered or trying to impress a female theyre colors change.

It can't change color from your mood, but from the fish's mood it can.
