In order to revoke a bond, the postee or bondsman MUST file a motion, which MUST be granted by a judge. No third party postee can just revoke a bond without good cause. They in essence GUARANTEE either in cash or by paper bond that the defendant would appear at every court appearance until the case is over. Therefore, it is a legally binding document.

Most states have some pretty stiff guidlines concerning revoking a bond.. if a person gives false information to a bondsman then they can revoke the bond but their reason must stand the test.. If a bondsman feels that a client needs mental help or is a danger to themself or others then it is their duty to report it.. Once a bond is posted and the bondee does all things required by the law.. then if the bond is revoked.. the fee must be returned.. one can file a complaint with the state commission or agency that over sees the bonding companies.. they should be able to help..

A bondsman (or anyone else who posted the bond) can revoke a bond for any reason. When the person is returned to custody, the bond will be returned. Or when the case is adjudicated, the bond will be returned.
