A number of people have officially stated their intention to run. Senator John McCain officially announced today he will be running. He is joined by former New York City mayor Rudy Guliani and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney trying to get the Republican nomination. On the Democratic side, Senators John Edwards, Hilliary Clinton and Barack Obama have all said that they are running. There are many minor candidates for both parties as well, like Republican Tommy Thompson and Democrat Bill Richardson.
Right now, it is far too soon to tell who will be the two nominees next year.
