I believe that once upon a time there were two companies: Squaresoft and Enix. Enix bought Squaresoft and became Square-Enix (go figure). they al lived happily ever after.

Enix bought Squaresoft, merging the two companies, this occured in 2002~2004 I think.

I don't remember the exact year squaresoft and enix merged, but I know kingdom hearts was already out.

the reason why could be for better business purposes. square bought out enix - this leads to more games, developers, staff, etc.

you could probably look back on news articles in game websites like, gamespot or ign.
