I don't think society is ending...but I do acknowledge there are some serious detriments occurring. It seems for each one step we take forward, we take 2 back. So we are moving ahead, but very very slowly. There are positives and negatives to most any society. Here in the US for example, while women are gaining ground, we are still often discriminated against (for example, maternity leave is paltry and we still have no national day care).

I get the feeling that your social studies teacher is just passionate about the subject matter...something to be admired, not belittled (made fun of). I hope some day you find passion in something other than the way that people look. Speaking of which...while I am not a fan of that particular hairstyle, it is no one's place to put another person down because of how they look. I'm sure you don't appreciate being teased...just because it's your teacher doesn't make it okay to tease them...

Perhaps, when he comes up for breath, you will have a question or two about what factors have contributed to his views. Input from your classmates will give them a feeling of inclusion, and can be used for the content of your questions. It will also create a sort of "solidarity" between the members in the class. It will also represent an attitude of interest in his theory, and that is usually flattering to the speaker.
His hair style is not an issue here. His personal hygiene is what should be considered. As for society coming to an end, it probably will, eventually. I doubt though that it is going to happen in the near future.

In many places it is. In the places it isn't, it's usually because State History and U.S. History are taught first, so World History waits until high school. I attended three different elementary schools (we moved a lot). Two of them taught World History, one didn't.

No crap! Tell him the 80's are over and that haircut is worse than the mullet ever was. I bet he still listens to Dokken and Ratt and wishes he could go to a Cinderella or Wasp concert. I can almost guarantee you he has a night ranger album somewhere.

The older you get, the more you'll be convinced that all kids are ignorant and shallow, caring about nothing except their own and other's looks, rather than what is going on in the world.

Let this be a warning to you. See what can happen if you are not serious about school? Then you take courses such as humanities and social science. You end up in a dead end job teaching kids like you; or you flip burgers.

I would ask to be transferred into another class.
