I own a shop, and we do extensive computer related work that no one else can find. Rule #1 is to make sure the battery is at full charge, the cables are making a good connection, and look for the ground strap going to the engine from the fire wall. Make sure every battery, and ground wire is attached and making a good connection. 80% of all computer related problems can be eliminated by repairing a bad ground cable or wire. Also; the dash may not be getting the proper ground to the fire wall. Any of this will cause this type of problem. If they can't find the problem, then you know it's not setting codes, and the problem lies somewhere else. If the voltage to the computer (for some reason or the other) falls below 12.0 volts it will do this. Check the brake fluid level, and also check the float inside the reservoir for the brakes. It could be sticking, a loose wire, or the harness not plugged in good. Sometimes a plug may have a bent pin, and won't make a good connection, and must be straightened out before it plugs on properly to make the connection. Grab the dash in one hand, and move it around while the engine is running, to see if you get the lights to come on, if so the dash isn't making a good ground. We have had to run a seperate ground wire before it stopped doing it. The ground they use is spring loaded, and it sometimes doesn't make much of a ground, thus causing this problem.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Check the brake light bulbs and check the gas cap, or get it scanned it may be a faulty sensor that causes the check engine light to come on. The Kia is not a very good car good luck with it.

Cute, very cute. If your check engine light is coming, it could one of a hundred different problems. Go to a mechanic who can plug an OBD device into your car's computer and read the code that will tell you exactly what is wrong. It could be serious, or it might not.

It's a Kia... I don't like them at all... they are a money pit... but check the fluid level and the lines for leaks. as for the check engine light... go to Auto Zone, they can pull the code the engine is giving you for free.

Its a Kia, they're pieces of crap. Buy a real car. Since a lot of kia's cost less than $10,000 you get what you pay for.
