Pluto still orbits the Sun in the same orbit as always. We just do not call it a planet any more. Astronomers had always been worried that it was too small to be a real planet, but they didn't know how small it REALLY was until a few years ago. Now that they know it is smaller than the Moon, they decided to call it a dwarf planet. So now there have 8 planets and 3 dwarf planets. 3? Yes, 3. Pluto, Eris, and Ceres. Eris is the big asteroid recently discovered out past Pluto, and Ceres is the largest asteroid between Mars and Jupiter. They did not just demote Pluto, they also promoted Ceres and Eris.

Yes that is true, the only difference between a planet and a dwarf planet is that a dwarf planet does not clear its surrounding area meaning it is not in the middle of other "stuff" like the asteroid belt. Pluto is believed to be part of the Kuiper belt. Ceres, another dwarf planet, is in the asteroid belt, and Eris is in the Kuiper belt with Pluto.

*edit* also size has absolutely nothing to do with why they classified it as a dwarf planet... well size sort of does because in order to be considered a dwarf planet it must have enough of a mass to be spherical...they did not just classify it as dwarf because of its size

Pluto is still there, it's just not classified as a planet anymore. We finally defined what a planet was for the first time, and Pluto didn't make the cut.
