I have been dying my hair for 12 years now. Some hair dyes can be very damaging. Keep in mind that once you dye your hair it's hard to stop dyeing it. There are some really great hair dyes that aren't as harsh on your head. Nice and Easy, Natural instincts, and there are a few others. If you are thinking about dyeing your hair you should think about going up or down just a few shades. Don't just jump from blond to black. If you only go a shade or two it's easy to stop dyeing your hair if you hate it. Once you find a brand you like then you can move into changing your color more. For instance I have been every color under the sun including off colors like blue and green. Go slow and you should be fine :) Good luck!

It depends if you're going lighter or darker. If you want to bleach a lot, it's more likely that you'll get a lot of damage and breakage. If you're only going a little lighter, there will be less and it shouldn't be noticeable. If you're going darker, you'll be fine. Just condition your hair regularly and consider using a shampoo/conditioner specifically for colored hair in order to preserve it. Don't blow dry, straighten, curl, etc. a lot if you plan on doing repeated colorings in the future, as that will really dry out and kill your hair. Lastly, hair dye only damages the hair currently on your head. Any new hair that grows out will be undamaged like the hair you have now. I would suggest asking for the opinions of those who know you and get pricing information at a salon if you don't want to do full coloring (as in, you just want highlights or tips or something). If you still want to dye, go for it.

It depends what color you choose.
If you are a brunette that wants to be a blond - then there is a damage for sure. Basically if the color is much lighter than your natural - you have to use strong chemicals to achieve the right result.
If you do not go crazy (just few levels lighter or darker then natural) - it is ok. It might even give you some volume at the end.
Go for it. Just talk to the color specialist at your store first.
DO NOT DO HIGHLIGHTS ON YOUR OWN!!!!! It will be a mess! Do not use bleach also.
Good luck

Changing hair color is one way people express themselves, or the various sides of themselves... whether it's lighter, darker, highlighted, natural, or "day-glo." There's little study-based evidence of anyone getting gray hair from dyeing his or her hair over and over again. However, some studies have suggested that heavy use of hair dye might cause cancer in some people (both in people who are dyeing their hair, and in colorists whose livelihood depends upon providing the coloring process). The connection isn't absolutely for sure, but it's enough of a possibility that scientists think it's a good idea to limit exposure to these products. The thinking is that more exposure over a lifetime will put one at a greater risk of potential problems. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), suspected cancer causing compounds are found in temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent dyes, including shampoo and mousse-type temporary (washout) products. Some likely safer hair coloring suggestions include:

using henna-based products. Henna is a plant-based dye and thought to be pretty safe. You can get shades of reds and browns with henna, although you won't be able to go blonde.
using lead acetate dyes to darken hair (they appear to be relatively safe). Lead acetate is a chemical additive used to progressively darken hair — the dye is put on in several applications, and, over time, the hair becomes gradually darker.
If you do decide to dye:

Follow the package directions to the letter.
To avoid allergic reactions, always follow the package directions for a "patch test" before using the dye on your hair (usually you're told just to dab a bit of dye behind your ear and leave it there without washing for a couple of days; if you don't develop a rash, itching, redness, or other irritation, you're probably not allergic or sensitive to the dye).
Wear gloves while handling the dye.
Leave the dye on your hair or head for no longer than absolutely necessary according to the instructions.
Rinse your hair and head with lots of water after dyeing, till the water runs clear in the shower or sink.
Don't mix different dye products together.
Avoid applying hair dye to eyebrows or eyelashes.

Hope that helps!!

You should go for it! It doesn't mess up your hair at all. But make sure you dont bleach it, because that would really damage your hair. Hope I helped ♥

Coloring your hair is fine, the color actually has some moisturizers in it. Just use a shampoo and conditioner with moisture and protein in it to help your hair. All I can say though, is DO NOT BLEACH IT. It falls out, I bleached mine once and lost over half my hair, that has nothing good for your hair in it. Good luck.

if you over process it it will damage your hair. Dye it, use ALOT of conditioner when you wash it and don;t color your hair more often than every 6 weeks. when you re-dye it... just do the roots.. dying it all is how it gets over processed and looks like straw.

It can damage your hair if you use the permanent ones.

I stopped dying mine. I did it more for variety than covering anything. Now that I have a few gray hairs, I am going to let those be my highlights.

Good luck and condition, condition, condition, if you do.

That's what I thought, but my hair is actually way smoother and shinier than it used to be. I've dyed it 4 times before.
