I'm 14 weeks pregnant and for the last couple of weeks, I wake up in the morning with cramps and pain in my lower abdomen. This is also the only time I can feel my uterus. As soon as I go to the bathroom, the pain goes away. The same thing happens throughout the day if I don't go to the bathroom immediately when I first feel like it. Anyone know why?

actually most of these people are correct about the placement of the bladder. however, the baby is not yet big enough to put real pressure on your bladder. What IS happening here is very simple...and a lesson you should learn now, early on, why not to hold in your urine while pregnant.

a full bladder actually irritates the uterus and in turn causes contractions, thses may be braxton hicks type now, but later on down the road they can turn real. do stay hydrated and do NOT cut down on drinks but DEFINETLY go when the urge strikes.

one more note to point out here: pregnant women are more prone to bladder infections as well and one sure fire way to contract one is by holding urine in too long and allowing the bacteria to build further irritating both bladder and uterus.

good luck with pregnancy and delivery...i wish you an easy one (delivery and baby! =) )

Cramps and pains are common in early pregnancy. And the uterus is located next to the bladder so as it grows it will push on it making the urge to pee very urgent and sometimes painful.

You can avoid this by going often, drinking lots of water and trying Kegels.

It's possible you might also have a Urinary Tract Infection. They are more common when a woman is pregnant. A quick urinalysis by a doctor can rule this out.

The bladder is inconveniently located directly in between the pelvis (bone) and the uterus (currently growing). So the pressure on the poor bladder gets pretty intense.

Here is a list of the most common ways women try to get more comfortable with this. http://www.birthingnaturally.net/pregnant/concerns/blad.html

Hope it helps, and good luck.
