how do you think nietzsche would respond to cottinghams criticism about how life cannot be compartmentalized because that makes it self defeating.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but does anyone take Cottingham seriously? The bits of his stuff that I've read seem to be as devoid of reason and logic as they are saturated with a wistful religiousity.

I'm certain Nietzsche would find the latter to be repellent to no small degree. He scorned most religions, and Christianity in particular, as philosophies of death and slavery - encouraging people to stop thinking critically and just accept everything that happens to them in hope for some reward after their demise. And if death is all you have to look forward to...
