people will panic

Even the skeptics can't deny that the governement, at least in the past, took sightings of UFO's seriously. Any unknown or unidentified object in American airspace can be a potential threat. But that is all a UFO is...an unidentified flying object. The term UFO doesn't alway mean extraterrestrial. While they continue to down play their "reality" they are still investigated by the Air force. There is, however, no official program like Grudge or Blue Book any longer. The so-called Majectic 12 documents have been all but completely debunked.

Area 51 is a top secret installation. But there is no proof that it has anything remotely to do with "UFO's" and/or Alien technology. I suspect those are largely urban myths created by the less stable and more fanciful in the UFO community.

However, it would not suprise me that if UFO/Alien contact were real that our government would be concealing it in the interest of "national security". One doesn't have to delve very far to see that this has been an SOP since before the cold war. Just think of something more mundane and down to earth as the so-called war on terror and Homeland Security. It isn't a far strecth. But we don't have any tangible proof.

Deep down, I don't think that the Government should conceal information regarding Area 51 but we need to consider the fact that we do have spies living amongst us and the secrecy is merely a counter intelligence tool. We need to keep our enemies, potential enemies and even our allies from reverse engineering our technology The whole alien autopsy thing is only speculation, but the fact of the matter is that they test some really crazy airframes out there. Located out in the middle of a desert with hardly any other sign of human life, is a perfect location to conduct testing of some spectacular flying machines. It is ideal for secrecy, so that no one can reverse engineer the hardware and it is also good for safety because if one of those birds go down they won't end up killing civilians on the ground. That being said, most of the "UFOs" that have been seen are being flown by USAF test pilots.

The government does not care what you know about UFOs, but they want to keep area 51 secret, because secret military activity takes place there. What activity you ask? I don't know because it is secret. Secrets, like magic, are really not very interesting after you learn them. Most are quite simple. If the secret military technology were hard to copy then they wouldn't have to keep it secret, its own complexity would prevent others from understanding it. But if it is some simple everyday thing that anyone could copy, they only to keep it to ourselves is to not tell people about it.

Why are people so damn paranoid. There has never been one shred of evidence of anything happening at area 51 except stealth testing and weapons development. Let go of the fairy tales.

Added - I have just been told by a reliable source that the Mayans are in Area 51 making a new calendar

You would have to live under a rock to not know about Area 51. I think they gave up on that one and moved the operations to some base in Colorado. I am not sure about the UFO's.

The answer is simple... Since our world is dominate with various religion beliefs, what will happen if the government will tomorrow say that Aliens exist, and that they don't believe in any god, as they KNOW that their is no god that exists... So it will scrap our countries social stabilities and disrupt the good functioning of our economy, because the masses will understand that they either waste their time preaching in the desert or will wish our countries to colonized them and convert them to make us feel happier...
This will be pathetic to say the least...
