Why is the terminator the best part to observe the features of the moon?

Think of what the shadows of trees or rocks look like on earth near sunset. Every little thing casts a long shadow and everything is exagerrated.
Near sunset on Earth is the terminator.
So the terminator on the moon is near sunset for that area, the shadows are long and everything is easier to see any irregularities.

The shadows highlight the craters. A full moon looks very flat.
