My 99 Escort zx2 wont take a jump start. I turned if off one day and then one second later it would not start. Everything was dead. I hooked up the cables from my Expedition and nothing. I hooked it up correctly but it just wont take a jump start. This happened to me me a while back and the mechanic replaced the battery. That battery is still brand new. No corrosion at all on the terminals. No gunk or anything on the battery.

Could be a bad ground wire to the engine block from the battery negative?

Yeah my guess would be the battery terminals to. I had the same exact problem before with my car. I brought it to the shop and they told me that the terminals were not tightened correctly and had some corrosion. Make sure they are tightened very well that was the main problem for my car it had to get jumped every time i turned the car off good luck.
