Shaming to deter crime?

Would the practice of shaming, as in preliterate cultures, work in the U.S. to deter crime? Why or why not?

If getting tossed in a Super Max prison doesn't, what makes you a simple "Shame shame!" will do any better?

no . how can we have any shame as a country in general when " girls gone wild " videos are the thing to advertise and or watch ?
