i am specifically looking for the horsepower loss on an rv. i believe there is a specific % ratio that is acceptable as a standard.

The same as from a gasoline engine - it all depends on the transmission. Autos often use up to 17% of the engine's power just to run it. A manual trans is usually around 10-12%.

First of all its diesel not deisel.The rule is about 9% that is lost in the trans and drive line.
