Clean! Close all your food tightly and clean ever surface, under and inside every cabinet, and under your stove and fridge. Consider Raid. Find what the ants are coming for (in my house, it was the electrical sockets; in my sister's, it was some 15 year-old balsamic from Italy...ants with good taste, I guess) and destroy it, repackage it, or seal it off with caulk/tape.
I used lemon, cinnamon, borax, and a ton of other remedies, but nothing worked like Raid. Borax was ok, but it took a long time and still had to be followed up with Raid. Some ants are just attracted to water, so make sure there's no leak under your sink....

"Combat" comes in nice little ant morgue packages! Small white caskets that look like hotels. Sorry if that sounds morbid.
It works and the kids/pets can't get to the poison. I put it in the path of the ants and usually b morning the ants are gone and are never seen again.
With many of the remedies you hear about the ants simply relocate and come in from another place. I prefer to relocate them to the permanent ant hotel.

Spray them and the area you see them coming from with Orange-Glo furniture polish (it's the only one that works). They die on contact. Then use a paper towel to wipe up the dead ants, but it will still leave a residue behind. You'll never see them in that area again. Just keep doing that whenever you see them. There access areas will soon be eliminated. You won't see the residue left, but it will leave a nice orangy scent.

Try to find their hills outside & start from there. You can use the stronger stuff outside unless kids & animals are a factor then using /ant traps & various sprays inside. Be careful where you spray!

You can get ground cinnamon and sprinkle it around the outside of the house. They hate the smell. It is also safe for pets and smells good. You can also use cinnamon sticks inside. No matter how clean your house is, they still come looking.
