side effects, apart form alot of weight gain.( Some of that is totally my fault.) No periods form day 1, no headaches,no hair loss. Im devestated that i have to stop getting the shot. But my Dr. wants me to have a bone density check. which has me a bit worried. Has anyopne eles been on it this long and how is your calcium levels? I a 36 years old. Thanks

The reason that your dr is asking you to have a bone density scan (and yes I've had one of these done before and I'm 35) is because Depo-Provera can put a woman at risk for osteoporosis after long term useage. I have done medication similar to Depo-Provera twice which just before the second time my dr required that I have this scan done. It is painless and only takes about 20 minutes to do. So far my bone density is ok. I am not sure about my overall calcium levels. I would have to ask my dr about that.
