You will never be first, and you have to be ok with that. You need to try to love the child too. You have to respect their relationship. You have to accept the fact that you will never be the child's mommy. You should make some sort of attempt at a decent relationship with the ex-wife because it will make YOUR life easier with your husband and his child. On the positive side, you get to experience a child without any of the emotional responsibility, or physical scars. You get to be the "fun" one who doesn't have to bother with discipline! You can have time away by yourself shopping or with friends on visitation weekends, so they can spend time together alone. You will get to have "family" time when the child is there, but you will also have alone time with your hubby when the child is not--but, unlike your husband, you won't feel the gnawing pain of missing them. It could be a good deal for you if you like children!
