No.
To work in psychology, you need a bachelor's degree in psychology. It is a four year degree. To work in psychiatry, however, you need a medical degree (it is NOT a PhD, it is an MD). It is four years of medical school, followed by four years of medical internship. To work in psychology, all you need is a bachelor's degree, unless you want to perscribe medications, then you need a medical degree.

That is the best route, especially if you want to be a psychiatrist. You can go to medical college and get a masters, PhD or PsyD or MD. It's up to you. Consult with an adviser to choose the path that is best for you. Good luck to you!!

Most psychologists have a masters degree, not a medical degree at all. Some smaller number have a Ph.D. Those who went to medical school and got an M.D. are psychiatrists, not psychologists.

I don't think so.......you could just get a master's degree in psychology, then do pretty much anything....counseling, writing, teaching, research...... the only real reason why you would need medical school would be if you wanted to be a psychiatrist and be able to prescribe drugs.

To be a psychiatrist you need a MD. To be a psychologist you need a PhD. Or you can get a masters in counseling and be a counselor.
