I disagree with both of the first two responders: The best improv people ALWAYS have "catch phrases" in stock, just in case they get stuck. Always be prepared with at least three or four good lines that can grease the wheels if things seem to get stuck. Remember these are just to get things moving, nothing to rely upon all the time.
Good ones are open ended questions that another person can act upon, not show-stoppers.
Like,
"Isn't that just like your mother to send you out looking like that?"
"Good Lord! What is that smell? Is that you?"
"Does this make me look fat?" (hold up something, anything, a prop, a rolling pin, a stapler, whatever)
" . . . well I always thought cannibalism was barbaric but quite nutritious. Um, what are your thoughts, dear? On nutrition, you dork?"
"Stick out your tongue! Go on! Wider! Say ahhh! Just as I thought, you're clearly dying. Close your mouth. What do you want?"

Improv is a fable exercising. that's all approximately mind's eye. pretend as though the objective audience isn't there till you may start up off feeding off of their reaction. Improv is something you the two come via certainly for might desire to artwork to be good. nonetheless you may experience humiliated that's reallly not something to be embarrased approximately. rather if everybody is having to do it!

You can't have things planned, then it's not improv. #1 rule though, is never say 'no' in improv, it stops the action dead in it's tracks. Whatever the other person says, just go with it. Add to it, it will be even funnier in the end if you're willing to make a fool of yourself. Have fun with it!
