In a capitalist society the creation of wealth benefits others. In a capitalist society market conditions expand the wealth of a community through the development of a society based upon the trade of goods and services. In that sense greed is good.

Greed is not good when one person's wealth is based upon the exploitation of others. This can occur in a capitalist society when constraints are not in place, or it can occur in a totalitarian society where the powerful can take whatever they want.

Wanting enough to live off, and such, is not greed, wanting more then more of what you need, especially if it's at the cost of others (ex: last ____ goes to you instead of them) is not. If it's a constent companion, where you think of yourself over your friends and familly and even just others that may need 'it' (your time or care especialy.) more then you...thats not good, no.
this is my opinion~, not demeaning anyone =)

ps, self preservation is not greed, if I didn't make that clear, even getting cushy is fine, just don't think of your self over others ALWAYS (you take your blind mom's house by her signing it away? one guy..did..I knew her dang it....that..is extreeme greed and absolutly totally ...insert several rantings here> )

Greed is not good.
Taking care of yourself and loving yourself is good.

Greed is when you want more more more of something and hoard it all for yourself just for the sake of having it ( this can be material or not material).

not in the extreme stages, but we're all on a spectrum that way. A 'greedy' person has an over-functional id, and while this can help in the individual's self-preservation, it is detrimental to greater society.
