Lack of substance/credibility could be a good starting point... No?

It tells me that I have been right all along...the "war" is wrong, and self-serving. If Shrubbie had "supported" the troops, he would never have sent them into the quagmire that is Iraq. If it was necessary to get rid of Saddam, why is it not "necessary" to rid the world of all evil leaders? And if it IS necessary, then I think he should remove those in this country! And he would do us all a big favor by being the first to step down.....

The way in which the Bush administration portrayed the death of Tillman, and the kidnapping of Jessica Lynch, just goes to show you how much this administration relies on propaganda. Sure, the use of slanted stories that embellish the supposed heroism of certain individuals, in order to inspire support, from the population, for ill-conceived wars is nothing new. Other governments and prior U.S. administrations have done this.

However, usually in most instances, there was a kernel of truth to most of the hyperbole that passed for military heroism back in the War World II era. Something has changed since the days of Eisenhower and Roosevelt.

Now, going far beyond exaggeration, our current administration is just plain making up its own news out of thin air. Never have I seen such blatant lying and fabrication of facts being performed, in order to convince the gullible public as to the “nobility” of this misguided war effort. Tillman died due to friendly fire, not as a result of being cut down by enemy combatants, due to intrepidly pursuing insurgents, as this administration would have us believe. Jessica Lynch, through her own admission, and much to this administration’s chagrin, was not abducted by her assailants after a protracted gun battle, mirroring something out of Rambo, as much as this administration tried to convince the public that she did. Instead she confessed that she cowered in fear. Who could blame her? I probably would have done the same? No one can say for sure, unless they are in that situation, how they would react. I can almost stake money on the fact that all those so-called “hawkish” Republicans that boast about their patriotism and American bravado, would be the first ones to wave the white flag if they were accosted by a crazed group of militants. I find that the ones that brag the most about their supposed virtues usually lack them.

Ultimately, when one lies about an issue one reveals that their position on that issue is bankrupt. The degree to which that lie is far removed from the real circumstances reveals just HOW bankrupt ones position is. With that said, the extent of the lie of Tillman’s death and Lynch’s abduction, demonstrates that this administration is absolutely bereft of any true substance in its foreign policy dealings. These blatant fabrications also illustrate how completely incompetent this administration is with respect to how it is conducting the war, and most importantly, it proves that the administration’s reasoning for going to war is totally based on a falsehood. An administration that truly had a sound and ethical foreign policy, an administration who conducts a war effort skillfully, and most importantly, an administration that has legitimate moral grounds to go to war, would never have to concoct such egregious falsehoods in order to inspire the public to support their efforts. The public, would naturally be swayed by the intrinsic righteousness of the cause.

You mean the way that there are congressional hearings about it now that the Democrats control congress?

It tells me America has been getting pretty partizan lately.

The ends justify the means. Everyone is expendable. Honesty is a profession best left to the dead. People exist only to further your goals. Etc. etc..

But it's not just Bush's America. Remember, it's voters that put him and his administration in power.

Not much. The military dropped the ball. To many people in the government left over from the Clinton years that would never keep this quiet.

To lie is okay when the truth exposes wrong doing or makes you look bad.

Nothing, it happened in Vietnam, but the liberals of today take just one story and run with it. Sad, that even freethinkers can't see the real truth.
