You are normally contacted on a call back for a commercial within 2 days; for a tv show within a week, a movie within 2 weeks, off broadway within a week. Sometimes, for whatever reason, you do not hear for a couple of weeks. The longest time elapsed from first audition to casting I personally know of was 3 and one half months.

It's usually a few days tops. But - you never know. A good rule of thumb is to ask before you leave. "When's the latest I'll hear back from you?" - that way you know when to stop waiting - because some casting directors are rude and never call the people they haven't cast.

It's different for every production especially for films. If you're unsure because you thought you nailed it but they haven't called yet, have your agent call to see what's up so you can stop worrying about it. You may just have been to tall or too blond! Oh well and on to the next!
