It seems that if we retreat then we are giving up the pursuit, which translates to defensive.

If we stay and continue to fight then we are playing offensive.

Correct?

When you go defensive, like we did in Nam, the enemy comes to you, on their own time table. And yes, they follow you to where you live, whether it is a fire base or America.
I have sat, taking fire and because Congress, in their infinite stupidity, made us have to call in and get permission to return fire. Tell me how stupid that was. Is this what they are looking for in Iraq???

When you actively go and seek them out to kill them, it keeps them off guard. They are less likely to come looking for you where you live.

I guess if you want to go with a sports analogy, fighting a war to win would be 'offense' and fighting one 'to avoid losing' would be 'defense.'

The Republicans are fighting the War in Iraq 'to avoid losing' - best case, the war goes on forever, but consumes fewer and fewer resources until it's just a bunch of US military bases in a mostly-pacified country where suicide bombers kill fewer people than traffic accidents.

The Democrats don't want to fight the war at all - pull out, bring the troops home, pass the hot potato to the UN. If Iraq ends up an Iranian puppet state, too bad, so sad (isn't it terrible what Bush did). Iran with a puppet state or two, and even a nuke or two, still isn't so much of a threat that it couldn't be ignored in favor of domestic issues by even a two-term Democrat in the oval office.

Your assessment of the ground situation in Iraq is not very well thought out.

We are not in an active pursuit. We're doing damage control by holding what ground has yet to be seized by insurgents and tribal groups who are supported by them.

If by pursuit you mean when are we going to capture Bin Laden, that opportunity has long since passed.

We have a darn good idea what part of the world he's hiding in, but it isn't in Iraq.

If Bush wants a real victory, give us Bin Laden and a couple of his closest supporters now.

We are not in the business of fighting civil wars for other countries, no matter the reason.

No. It is not about being defensive or offensive... It is about communication! The Republicans have an agenda which no one seems to understand... There appears to be no end in sight to this conflict. The Dems have been asking to sit down and resolve this conflict once and for all. No one is saying cut and run but there has to be a plan to resolve this conflict and a time-line to get out.

incorrect... we're in a defensive war now... sitting in Iraq... waiting for them to attack us...

we aren't going after the terrorists IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM...

I would fully support an offensive war focusing on al-queda, Hezbollah and Hamas leadership... but NONE of that is in Iraq, or has EVER been in Iraq...

we're fighting a defensive war in the middle of a civil war... it's like a stupid idea times 2...

we clearly stopped the persuit when we went to Iraq... and the terrorists are well aware...

this is ignorant human beings such as you that save the so called conflict brewing. i think of a lot of Democrats wakened final night and found out that for the previous 4 years they have been performed for fools with the aid of their very own social gathering. in case you vote for Obama back he will administration your life in his socialist society that he has planned for this usa. the only element the Republicans are answerable for is attempting to maintain your FREEDOM so which you will proceed to make ridiculous comments like this. believe me once I say that we don't care what you think of persons the two.

Wrong. If we continue to fight, then we are protecting the World. If we cut and run, we are dooming the World to Islamic Domination.
