Which one is more dangerous. Joe Smith walking down the street past a school with his 9mm, concealed carry permit and X amount of hours of training in firearm safety or some Soccer Mom driving past a school zone in her mini van chatting on the cell phone with her girlfriend about the latest episode of The View?

A soccer mom, driving past a school zone, in her mini van, chatting on the cell phone, with some teenagers in the back, who have 9mm's and are ready to shoot the next person they see walking on the sidewalk. That's the most dangerous scenario I can think of.

"According to the car accident statistics released by the United States Department of Transportation’s (USDOT’s) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were almost 43,000 deaths in 2002 because of car accidents. The car accident fatalities for the year 2003 stand at 42,643."[See source.]

"FACT:In 2004 (the most recent year for which data is available), there were 29,569 gun deaths in the U.S:" [See source.]

Now before you go all half ****** (pun intended), recognize that car-hours way exceed gun-hours. A car-hour is one car being used for one hour. A gun-hour is one gun being used for one hour. So 42,000 per car hour is way lower than 30,000 per gun hour.

What does this mean? It means that GIVEN a person is toting a gun, the probability that someone will be killed by that gun toting person is higher than given that same person is driving her car.
