I definately believe in the Mayan calender but to call it dooms day is an insult to the Mayan belief. Their concept was not the end of the world. To them it means the end of an era or age and the beginning of a new one. Their calender was developed through observations of the stars and the26,000year cosmic cycle. I was under the impression that it was 21st Dec. 2012 which relates to the solstice and has been set as the time that the cosmic cycle ends. It wouldn't matter which calender we follow that is the time their calender finishes. Some believe this will be the time that we as a race ascend into 4th dimensional existence. An age where we don't rely on physical form.

Well for starters the Mayans didn't have the Gregorian calendar that we use today. So who said they came up with that particular date? it makes no sense.
There is no one on this earth that has a clue when the world will end. They have tried this stuff for centuries its all smoke and mirrors..and lies to sell books.
Even Jesus said He didn't know nor the angels.. only the Father.

People have been coming up with doomsday prophecies since the beginning; Revelations was written in the years soon after the death of Jesus because it was believed the world would soon come to an end; it didn't and it wouldn't (unless we get hit by the big one).

For the 218956th time, NO!!

They didn't predict anything, their calendar just happens to end in 2012. They could've made their calendar to go to 40,000 if they wanted to, but they only made it until 2012 because they probably didn't think they'd live that long, and they sure didn't live that long, they died way before.

I have heard about this before, I think when I studied spanish in high school. And the guy that answered above me I think explains what their predication really was about.

I dont wanna say I believe in it. But I will say its possible, maybe? there are many things we do not understand yet? Who knows? It sounds interesting at least:)

Not at all. The calendar I bought at Barnes & Noble runs out in Feb 2008. That's when the world will end.

I just believe their calendar had to stop somewhere and that point just happened to be 2012.
